Women Only Poker Tournaments
Womens poker is always a hot topic. As a female poker player I have always steered away from women only poker tournaments. My mind set was that I must be the odd one as the poker rooms offer them so there must be a call for them. I use to think women only tournaments seemed a good idea in theory, but do they actually serve the purpose of attracting more female players to the game? Or is it just what the male mind thinks we want. Do women actually feel comfortable playing poker solely against other women? By playing women only poker tournaments are we agreeing that a female poker player is different to a male poker player. This doesn’t seem to fit in though when we shout and scream that there is no difference in a male or female poker player. We seem to have double standards and we are actually making it harder for ourselves. If we really want to be taken seriously in the poker game and treated as an equal should we actually be playing these women only games?
The poker rooms that provide them are either being blinkered and not actually asking if we actually do want them and presuming it’s what we want or they are being extremely clever in cashing in on the forever ongoing debate about them. As long as there are men, women and a deck of cards there will always be the debate about women at the poker tables. Particularly when it has always been a male orientated game and women are still seen as a minority and a rather novel addition. Whilst we are allowing ourselves as women to be treated differently at the poker tables,we always will be treated differently.
